Getting started
What is a virtual office?
A shared online space laid out like a real office. Everyone has a character. Walk up to someone and you can hear and see them; walk away and the conversation fades. Rooms work as private meetings.
Do we need to install anything?
No. CheckDEV runs in your web browser on a computer; Chrome or Edge is recommended. If you prefer, there are apps for Windows and Mac on the download page.
How long does it take to set up?
A couple of minutes. Choose a plan and your office's address, and you walk into a furnished floor straight away. Then invite your team by email.
How do people join?
An admin invites their email address. They open your office's address and sign in with that email, using Google or an email and password.
Using it
Can people hear everything I say?
Only the people near you, and your voice fades with distance. Inside a private room, only the people in that room can hear you.
Can I have a private meeting?
Yes. Walk into a room and lock it. Add a PIN so the people you tell can let themselves in, or let people knock and choose who to let in.
Can I share my screen?
Yes. Everyone who can hear you sees it, and can open it large or full screen. In the desktop app you can share a single window instead of the whole screen.
Can we have more than one floor?
Yes: 2 on Starter, 5 on Team and 10 on Business. Floors are joined by elevators, and messages reach people on any floor.
Can we change the layout?
Yes. Admins open the office builder to move furniture, paint floors and walls, mark out rooms and add floors, while everyone keeps working.
How do guests work?
An admin creates a one-time guest link and sends it to the visitor. They come in without an account for one visit of up to 12 hours. Nobody else can reuse the link, and it does not take a seat.
The desktop apps
Which computers are supported?
Windows 10 and 11 (64-bit), and macOS 12 or later on Apple silicon and Intel.
How do I sign in to the app?
The app opens your usual browser to sign in, where Google already knows you, then brings you straight back. After that it opens into the last office you used.
Windows or macOS warned me when I first opened it.
On Windows choose More info, then Run anyway. On a Mac, open System Settings, then Privacy and Security, and choose Open Anyway. You only need to do this once.
Billing
How much does it cost?
It is free for up to 5 people on one floor. Bigger teams pay $3, $4 or $5 per user a month depending on the plan. See pricing for what each includes.
Can I add or remove people later?
Yes, from your account page. Seat changes are prorated.
How do I cancel?
From the billing page in your account. You will not be charged again.
Privacy
Do you record our calls?
No. Voice, video and shared screens go directly between the people in a conversation and are never recorded by us. See security.
Where is our data kept?
On servers in the United States. We store your office layout and member list, not your conversations.
